Your physician job in the Pacific Northwest: green is better
There are some things you should know about Eugene and Springfield. We're about an hour from the Pacific Ocean. We're about an hour from the ski slopes of the Oregon Cascades. We're in the fertile Willamette Valley, where great, green fields attest to the temperate climate. It rains here. And it shines. On occasion, if we're very lucky, we get a day or two of snow. If you're worried about the rain, please consider that the cumulative annual rainfall in Oregon is less than that of many states including Alabama.

Go outside and play
what to do, what to do
We are surrounded by possibility in the form of outdoor pursuits; the mountains beg to be skied, hiked and camped. Rivers and lakes offer bountiful fishing, kayaking, canoeing and swimming.
Turn toward the coast and we've got tide pools, hikes and surfing. Build a sand castle. If staying in town is on your agenda, bike-friendly Eugene and Springfield makes it easy to ride not just downtown but along the Willamette River or to all points in the outlying regions. We're not called "Track Town" for nothing; Eugene hosts the Prefontaine Classic Track Meet every summer and the city is looped with running trails and dotted with running clubs. Olympic athletes call this place home and train on these streets.

Come inside and take it easy
There are museums here, plus art galleries, places to watch performances and wineries that must be toured. There are shopping opportunities that will require attention as well as restaurants that will cause distraction. The Eugene Public Library was built new in 2003 and still sparkles. There is ice skating, roller skating, gymnastics, paint ball and, if you must, enough coffee houses to please even the most persistent coffee drinker.
As home to the University of Oregon and Lane Community College, the region is teeming with educational experiences that are open to the public. There's also the sporting events that capture our attention: U of O Duck football and basketball are big draws and can't-miss events.
With world-class performance venues like the Hult Center for the Performing Arts, Cuthbert Amphitheater, and the newly restored McDonald Theatre, Eugene is on the short list of big-name performances. Plus, the Eugene Opera, Eugene Ballet Company, and the Eugene Symphony, as well as the annual Bach Festival, the Oregon Festival of American Music and other local cultural events will keep you busy pretty much year-round, with breaks to check out the clubs and bars that host rising stars in music and comedy.
